Two people have been reported dead by the Ghana Police Service following a conflict between two youth gangs in the Eastern Region’s Nsawam Adoagyiri.
According to a statement released by the police on May 23, 2025, investigations have shown that a shooting incident in Adoagyiri on May 20, 2025, left one person dead and another injured.
According to the police, this sparked a retaliatory attack by some local youth groups, where the about 300 young people blocked the road, set tires on fire, and trashed a few local businesses and cars.
Three additional people were hurt in the youth groups’ retaliatory attack and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Isaah Masawudu, one of the victims, passed away in the hospital, nevertheless. The disturbances were caused by Adoagyiri Zongo’s youth going on a rampage after his death.
A re-enforcement squad from the National Formed Police Unit and National Police Headquarters was dispatched to the scene and managed to resolve the issue effectively.
The police claim that efforts are on to get all those involved arrested so that they can be held accountable. The statement continued by stating, “As we continue to maintain law and order at Adoagyiri and the surrounding communities, we would like to urge everyone to remain calm.”
